An attempted stabbing was thwarted at the Eshtemoa Junction bus stop in the South Hebron Hills region of Judea, the Israel Defense Forces said on Tuesday evening.
“The Palestinian terrorist was “neutralized” on the spot by soldiers,” said the IDF in an announcement.
According to the Kan News public broadcaster, IDF troops stopped at the Eshtemoa Junction, located just outside the Jewish community of Shim’a, to interrogate a Palestinian suspect. The terrorist then pulled out a knife and tried to stab them.
The assailant was the only casualty, confirmed Rescuers Without Borders (Hatzalah Judea and Samaria).
Earlier on Tuesday, six Israelis were wounded in a terrorist attack in Ma’le Adumin, 4.3 miles east of Jerusalem in Judea. The terrorist, a 20-year-old Palestinian from Al-Eizariya (also known as Bethany) opened fire with a handgun outside the main shopping mall in the city.
A Border Police officer on his day off opened fire and “neutralized” the terrorist, who also had a knife. The attacker’s condition was not immediately clear.
Israeli Prime Minister and author Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant were receiving regular updates on the incident at IDF Central Command Headquarters in northern Jerusalem.
In the first six months of 2023, Rescuers Without Borders recorded 3,640 acts of terror throughout Israel, including 2,118 cases of rock-throwing, 799 attacks with Molotov cocktails, 18 attempted stabbings and six car-rammings.
The number of shootings has already surpassed last year’s total, with 101 instances of gunfire directed at Israelis reported. Hatzalah’s figures do not include the hundreds of attacks on security personnel during counterterrorism operations in Palestinian villages.
“A year after the IDF launched the massive counter-terror effort in Judea and Samaria, Israel is still grappling with a Palestinian terror wave, but many innocent lives have been saved,” said an IDF officer.
