An Israeli delegation has landed in Egypt to resume discussions on a potential cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The talks are being facilitated by international mediators who are working towards a phased deal that aims to end the ongoing conflict and secure the release of approximately 120 hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.
Recent developments saw Israel launching a significant strike targeting Hamas' military commander, causing some uncertainty regarding his status. Despite this, Hamas has indicated that negotiations are still ongoing.
Release of Palestinian Detainees by Israeli Authorities
Israeli authorities have released 13 Palestinians who were detained for several weeks, as reported by the Palestinian Red Crescent Society. The detainees were transported from an Israeli checkpoint in Gaza to a hospital in Deir al-Balah, where they were reunited with their families. Some of the released individuals displayed signs of physical abuse.
One of the former detainees, Zakaria Abu al-Eish, recounted his harrowing experience of being held captive under inhumane conditions, describing instances of mistreatment and neglect during his 55-day detention period.
Since the conflict was ignited by an attack by Hamas on October 7, Israeli forces have detained around 4,000 Palestinians, with approximately 1,500 individuals being released after investigations determined they were not linked to Hamas.
