The Israeli Defense Ministry has recently transferred approximately $8 million in alleged 'terrorist funds' seized in Gaza to Israel's central bank. The funds, amounting to about 29 million shekels ($7.6 million), were discovered in 'Hamas strongholds and in the homes of wanted individuals' in various locations, as reported by the ministry on Thursday.
A specialized military unit was responsible for locating and confiscating the funds during clashes in the Gaza Strip. However, it is important to note that there is currently no independent verification of the Israeli defense ministry's assertion that the confiscated money indeed constitutes 'terrorist funds'.
Of the total amount seized, 12 million shekels ($3.2 million) were transferred to the Bank of Israel on Wednesday, while an additional 17 million shekels ($4.5 million) were handed over to the bank the previous week. The counting of the money took place at a military base in central Israel and lasted several hours, according to the ministry.
