Early on Friday, a series of Israeli airstrikes near the Syrian city of Aleppo resulted in casualties among both civilians and military personnel, as reported by the Syrian state news agency SANA. The attack, which occurred around 1:45 a.m. local time, was initiated by Israeli warplanes from the direction of Athriya, southeast of Aleppo, according to a military source quoted by SANA.
Israel has not issued a public statement regarding the incident. Over the years, Israel has conducted airstrikes in Syria targeting Iran-backed militant groups. The frequency of these airstrikes has notably increased since the October 7 attacks by Hamas.
