Reports from Syria's state news agency indicate that Israel conducted two airstrikes in a western neighborhood of Damascus and a suburb of the capital, resulting in casualties and damage. At least 15 people were killed in the attacks, with an additional 16 individuals sustaining injuries.
The strikes targeted buildings in the Mazzeh neighborhood of Damascus and the suburb of Qudsaya northwest of the capital. Witnesses on the ground observed significant damage, including a five-story building in Mazzeh that was hit by a missile, causing destruction to the basement.
According to the state news agency, one of the airstrikes specifically aimed at an office belonging to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group. A spokesperson for the group confirmed that several members were killed in the attack on their office in Mazzeh. The spokesperson, who requested anonymity, mentioned that the strike resulted in casualties among their ranks.
Additionally, Syria's air defenses were reportedly activated against a 'hostile target' located south of the central city of Homs. However, no further details regarding this particular incident were provided by the state news agency.
It is noted that Israel has conducted numerous airstrikes in Syria in the past, often targeting members of Lebanon's Hezbollah and individuals affiliated with Iranian-backed groups. The recent attacks in Damascus and its suburbs mark another chapter in the ongoing tensions between Israel and factions operating within Syria.
