Israel launches strikes on Gaza as war resumes after truce with Hamas expires

Israel has resumed its war on Hamas after the end of a seven-day ceasefire – with one UN official saying that “hell on earth has returned to Gaza”.

Israel’s warplanes pounded Gaza on Friday after talks to extend a week-old truce with Hamas collapsed, sending wounded and dead Palestinians into hospitals and others onto the streets to seek safety.
