The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have taken action against 'suspects' in southern Lebanon for allegedly violating the terms of the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hezbollah. IDF Arabic Spokesperson Avichay Adraee reported that several suspects were observed arriving in vehicles to various areas in southern Lebanon, which is considered a breach of the agreement.
Both the Israeli and Lebanese militaries have cautioned displaced Lebanese individuals not to return to evacuated villages in southern Lebanon until Israeli troops withdraw. The ceasefire deal, facilitated by the U.S. and France and endorsed by Israel, mandates a two-month cessation of hostilities and requires Hezbollah to cease its armed presence in southern Lebanon while Israeli troops retreat to their side of the border.
Adraee emphasized that IDF forces are enforcing the ceasefire agreement in southern Lebanon and have fired at violators. A map delineating a restricted zone along the Israel-Lebanon border has been shared, advising Lebanese residents to refrain from entering the area for their safety.
Israeli tanks targeted six locations within the specified region, resulting in two injuries, as reported by Lebanese state media and security sources. Meanwhile, Hezbollah has affirmed its readiness to confront Israeli aggression and monitor the IDF troop withdrawal closely.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah originated when Hezbollah, supported by Iran, launched attacks into northern Israel following Hamas' assault on Israel in October 2023. Israel has eliminated numerous Hezbollah leaders and damaged the group's infrastructure in Lebanon during the conflict.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu anticipates that concluding the conflict with Hezbollah will isolate Hamas in the Gaza Strip, facilitating the recovery of remaining hostages. Thousands of displaced Lebanese citizens have begun returning home as the ceasefire takes effect, despite the challenges faced during the conflict.
While some Lebanese expressed optimism about rebuilding their lives, displaced Israelis remain cautious about returning home due to concerns about Hezbollah's proximity and the unresolved hostage situation in Gaza. The mood in Israel is described as subdued as the aftermath of the conflict continues to unfold.
