In a remarkable archaeological discovery, researchers have discovered what is believed to be the oldest known gate in Israel. The Israel Antiquities Authority informed that it’s a 5,500-year-old imposing stone and mud-brick passageway to the ancient city of Tel Erani.
This structure was unearthed during excavations near Kiryat Gat's industrial zone, just before the installation of a water pipeline. Reportedly, the excavation did not unveil only the gate, but also a portion of a fortification system, dating back to the early bronze age, which is approximately 3,300 years ago.
