Isolating Joe Biden ‘feeling better everyday’ after Covid infection and jokes ‘my dog had to wake me up’

Joe Biden said he was “feeling better every day” as he recovers from Covid and joked he slept so soundly his dog had to wake him up.

The US president, who is isolating in the White House residence after testing positive on Thursday, said his voice is still raspy and he still has nasal congestion, but he is “on my way to fully recovered, God willing”.

He does have his German Shepherd Commander for company. He shared a picture of the pair on the residence balcony on Twitter with the post “Took some calls this morning with man’s best co-worker.”

And after participating in a virtual meeting to talk about computer chip manufacturing, he said: “I’m feeling great. You know, I’ve had two full nights of sleep all the way through.

“Matter of fact, my dog had to wake me up this morning. My wife’s not here, and she usually takes him out in the morning while I’m upstairs working out. So I felt this nuzzle of my dog’s nose against my chest about five minutes to 7 o’clock.”

His doctor Kevin O’Connor said yesterday his symptoms have “almost completely resolved” and his vital signs remain “absolutely normal”.

The White House plans to hold a summit today to discuss developing a new generation of vaccines that could more effectively guard against contagious variants.

Although the current generation of vaccines, plus antiviral drugs, have helped prevent hospital admissions and deaths, there are hopes that new versions could provide more durable protection against infection.
