Ismaila Sarr to return to Watford training but Roy Hodgson unsure about Brighton availability

Ismaila Sarr will return to Watford training on Friday, with manager Roy Hodgson currently unsure if he will play against Brighton this weekend.

Sarr has not played for Watford since November after injuring his knee during a victory over Manchester United.

The winger recovered, however, midway through the Africa Cup of Nations and he played at the tournament last month, helping Senegal go all the way.

Sarr is now due to return to Watford training on Friday and he will be assessed to see if he can play against Brighton the following day.

“He comes back to training tomorrow, I think, so I shall see him then,” said Hodgson.

“Absolutely [he will get a good welcome from the players and coaching staff]. Many congratulations to him.

“It was a fantastic achievement for Senegal to win the Africa Cup of Nations and I am sure he will still be having a very warm glow in the aftermath of that victory.

“I can’t say [if he will be available for Saturday]. I haven’t even met him yet to be honest.

“The first thing will be to meet him, speak to him and welcome him back to the fold, and to congratulate him.

“The second thing will be to have an assessment alongside him as to where he is and how he’s feeling.

“You always hope that the players, who are signed by the club and contracted to the club, are anxious to do what the rest of us are also anxious to do. So I don’t think I’ll have any reason to doubt his commitment.”
