Beirut’s Dar Al Adab is set to release an Arabic translation of Isabel Allende’s new novel by Marc Jamal.
The novel, ‘Violeta’, revolves around the life between two pandemics, starting with the Spanish flu and ending with the coronavirus.
In letters full of purity and vivacity, Violeta tells her own story that extends over one century.
We see Violeta, the little spoiled girl who was born in a wealthy family that later suffers from financial problems due to the great depression; the young dreaming lady in the astounding Chilean countryside; the woman deeply in love who enters the men’s world; the mother facing the worrying fate of her son and daughter; and finally, the grandmother who loves her life more than ever.
All these events come in a historic frame full of developments that form the world we live in today.
In this book, Allende returns to the epic novel with a style that mixes reality with imagination, says the publisher.
She writes a story inspired by the past and the present, in which the reader can sense the echoes of Allende’s ‘Paula’ and the ‘House of Spirits’.
