Is there any sign of summer heat hitting Ireland? Met Eireann's forecast for first few weeks of May

With schools across the country now closed for the Easter Holidays, summer seems to be closer than ever.

Many people are looking forward to getting out into their gardens and enjoying some much-needed sunshine. But is there any sign of any summer heat hitting Ireland as April draws to a close?

Met Eireann has issued its monthly forecast with next week to bring drier than usual weather before things take a turn for the worst as bands of rain spread across the country.

Here is a more detailed look at what to expect.

Week 1 - Friday, April 22 to Thursday, April 28

The first week in the outlook period will be drier and more settled as low pressure drifts away to the south of the country.

A predominantly easterly flow will bring drier air across Ireland, and while there will be a few showers at times, it will stay much drier overall.

Higher temperatures in the upper atmosphere will help to inhibit any convective weather over the course of the week, with temperatures staying slightly above average for this time of year.

Week 2 - Friday, April 29 to Thursday, May 5

By week 2, Ireland lies in a relatively neutral position with higher pressures to the north and lower pressures to the south, leading to a slack easterly airflow over the country with temperatures remaining around average for this time of year.

There will be a little more wet weather, with all areas of the country getting slightly more rainfall than average, but there shouldn't be anything in the way of active or hazardous weather.

Week 3 - Friday, May 6 to Thursday, May 12

For week 3, low pressure will start building from the southwest bringing a period of more active weather across the country.

While temperatures will stay around average, it will be a wetter week than usual, with most areas of the country seeing above-average rainfall.

Lower upper air temperatures will allow for more convective weather, but this is mainly for the western half of the country.

Week 4 - Friday, May 13 to Thursday, May 19

An unsettled period for week 4, but overall, Met Eireann admits that confidence is rather low.

While it will be slightly warmer than usual, mainly in the southern half of the country, it will be another wetter than average week countrywide.

The upper atmosphere remains somewhat neutral, so any active weather is unlikely.
