The NFL Draft is set to begin in just a couple of weeks, and there are conflicting reports on the potential wide receiver class in 2023. The Patriots have met with several wide receivers, including USC’s Jordan Addison and Boston College’s Zay Flowers.
However, many teams don’t view the wide receiver class as one rich with talent—at least not as much as media members, according to NFL Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy.
On Monday, Nagy put out a tweet indicating teams are not high on several wide receivers in this draft. The one wide receiver that teams are really paying attention to, per Nagy, is Ohio State’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Smith-Njigba recorded 110 catches for 1,698 yards and 10 touchdowns in three years at Ohio State. His best year came in 2021, when he recorded 95 receptions for 1,606 yards and nine touchdowns.
One thing has become clear on calls around league past couple weeks: NFL isn’t nearly as high on this year’s WR class as media.
Frequently seeing 4-5 wideouts in mocks. Have spoken to numerous teams that have only one first round grade at the position. That guy is JSN.

It will be interesting to see what the Patriots do with the 14th overall pick.
Whatever that decision ends up being will carry serious weight in terms of the team’s success moving forward in the 2023 season.
