Is the Ohio State short-yardage quarterback plays still an option after Devon Brown’s injury?

Over the last few weeks, the Ohio State Football coaches saw a way to get backup quarterback Devin Brown onto the field in short-yardage situations.

It has been a mixed bag of results, 10 carries for 25 yards and a score, with a fumble into the end zone also occurring. Last week against Penn State, Brown rolled his ankle, had to be carted off the field and will now miss multiple weeks as he heals.

An offer for Buckeyes fans

You probably would have thought that the Buckeyes short-yardage quarterback package wasn’t an option, but as head coach Ryan Day mentioned during his time with the media, true freshman Lincoln Kienholz could take over those duties.

This is an intriguing option, as Kienholz is an elite athlete, more so than Brown is. He still have four games to play without burning the planned redshirt, so using him in the right situations is paramount.

You have to believe that Day is setting up a pass at some point with his package, but we have yet to see it. Maybe he’s holding onto this for their final regular season game.
