Is Sunderland vs Sheffield Wednesday on TV? Coverage details, live stream info, kick-off time and more

Sunderland take on Sheffield Wedneday at the Stadium of Light on Friday night in the first leg of their play-off semi-final. The game kicks-off at 7.45pm and Sunderland will be looking to build a lead to take to Hillsborough for Monday's second leg.

Alex Neil's side secured their play-off spot with a 1-0 win at Morecambe on the final day of the season, which saw them finish in fifth place in League One. The Black Cats go into the play-offs in good form, and on the back of a 13-game unbeaten run.

Sheffield Wednesday made sure of their place in the play-offs with a 4-1 home win against Portsmouth on the final day, which was enough for them to finish fourth - one point above Sunderland. Darren Moore's men have lost just one of their last 11 games.

The Owls beat Sunderland 3-0 at Hillsborough back in November, thanks to goals from Theo Corbeanu, Florian Kamberi, and Lee Gregory. But the Black Cats - under then-boss Lee Johnson - avenged that defeat at the end of December as they thrashed the South Yorkshire side 5-0 on Wearside, with Ross Stewart helping himself to a hat-trick, and Callum Doyle and Benji Kimpioka also on the scoresheet, to go into the New Year at the top of the table.

Now the sides must do battle again over two legs in the play-offs, with the winners going through to meet either MK Dons or Wycombe Wanderers in the final at Wembley on Saturday, May 21.

What is the early team news ahead of Sunderland vs Sheffield Wednesday?

Alex Neil is keeping his cards close to his chest as far as Nathan Broadhead's fitness is concerned.

The on-loan Everton striker limped out of Sunderland's win at Morecambe, and Neil said only that he would 'make a call' on him ahead of Friday's game.

Sunderland also have doubts over defenders Dennis Cirkin and Callum Doyle both missing out on the final day trip to Morecambe due to injury.

Neil is hopeful that Cirkin will be fit to return from his calf issue for the play-off games and said that Doyle's injury does not seem too serious.

Carl Winchester is out of action with a groin injury which is likely to rule him out of the play-offs.

Leon Dajaku reported back to the Acadamy of Light this week after recovering from illness back home in Germany, but Neil says it is too early for him to be involved.

Aiden McGeady was included in the squad at Morecambe having been sidelined since November with a knee ligament injury.

But long-term absentees Jordan Willis (patella tendon), and Niall Huggins (heel) have already been ruled out until next season.
