STATISTICS published this week showing children’s performance in reading and maths had declined in Scotland led to explosion of negative headlines calling out the SNP’s record in education.

The latest Programme for International Student Assessment (Pisa) report indicated reading and maths results in Scotland had gone backwards while England had pulled ahead of the rest of the UK.
