Is Rangers chairman Douglas Park right to demand an SFA probe into the SPFL sponsorship dispute? - Saturday Jury

Is Douglas Park right to demand an SFA probe into the SPFL’s dispute over the league sponsorship?

Craig Swan: Whether you agree or not, Park is perfectly entitled to speak up if he feels his club has been wronged.

Andy Newport: The whole thing stinks so we need to get to the bottom of it one way or another. The row looks terrible for Scottish football and you imagine it can’t be doing anything to persuade future sponsors to invest in our game.

Fraser Wilson: Yes. It looks like a massive climbdown from the SPFL which raises major questions about their governance. Although it will be interesting to hear their side of the story if the confidentiality clause is removed.

Calvin Ramsay is close to a move Liverpool, how will he get on?

Craig Swan: There’s no doubt he’ll kick on even just by training with the Liverpool squad. A great move.

Andy Newport: He’s bound to improve working with a higher calibre of player on a daily basis down on Merseyside but he will have to leap a few levels to make himself a Reds regular. But Andy Robertson is the perfect example to show it can be done.

Fraser Wilson: What a fantastic piece of business for Aberdeen for a player who has only played 39 top team games. There’s so much development in Ramsay but he’s nowhere near Premier League level yet. Add defensive nous to his game and he could become a star though.

Is Jack Ross the right man to carry on Tam Courts’ good work at Dundee United?

Craig Swan: Not much further, really. On budgets, United are as high as they can be. Maintaining their position is success.

Andy Newport: Yes. Ross was harshly treated at Hibs and deserves another crack at management. It’ll be tough topping last season’s fourth place but he has an early shot at Tannadice immortality if he can guide the Terrors through to the Europa Conference League groups.

Fraser Wilson: Undoubtedly. Someone was always going to get lucky with Ross and it looks like United. He knows the league, knows how to get to third and cup finals and if he can get the most out of the crop of talented youngsters at Tannadice more finals could be a real target.

The fixtures are out, who do you expect to get off to a flier in the Premiership?

Craig Swan: Impossible to say. You try getting a coupon up in the Premiership.

Andy Newport: You’d imagine the Old Firm will get up to speed pretty quick but a win away at Easter Road on the second day would set Hearts up nicely before they travel to Parkhead on matchday four.

Fraser Wilson: Rangers opening five fixtures look slightly less tricky than Celtic’s ahead of the first Old Firm at Parkhead. Both sides should be ready to hit the ground running this season so the start is vital. What a stinker for Livingston though. Last year’s top five plus Aberdeen and Hibs in the opening seven!
