At this point, the Pittsburgh Steelers seem to be prepared to move on from wide receiver Steven Sims Jr. and are entrusting the third wide receiver position to Calvin Austin III. Austin is coming off a rookie season where he spent the year on IR with a foot injury. This alone is a cause for concern and should prompt the Steelers to try to bring in a veteran receiver who plays a similar style and can help the team now.
Enter Kansas City Chiefs receiver Mecole Hardman. Similar to Austin, Hardman suffered an injury in 2022. His was an abdominal injury and it kept him out of all but seven games. Hardman is now healthy and ready to improve on his 25 receptions for 297 yards and four touchdowns last season. The Steelers want a deep threat in the slot and Hardman absolutely fits the bill.
Hardman shouldn’t command a huge contract and is probably willing to come in and play on a one-year deal to show he is healthy. Hardman is a great one-year rental to rotate with Austin and bring the speed to the Steelers passing game.
