Is Nick Chubb playing vs Bengals? Injury updates for Browns running back

The Cleveland Browns are taking on the Cincinnati Bengals today and they are set to get running back Nick Chubb back in their lineup.

The Browns got their ground game going a bit last week against the Philadelphia Eagles. They now hope the return of Chubb gives it another much-needed boost. Sitting at 1-5 thus far on the season, morale has been low in Cleveland. However, the return of their heart and soul may just give the team the boost they need.

Here is all you need to know about Chubb and his knee as he takes the field for the first time since Week 2 of the 2023 season today:

Nick Chubb injury update

The Browns designated Nick Chubb for return from the Physically Unable to Perform list 20 days ago. He has practiced every day since then. Then on Saturday, the day before their AFC matchup against the Bengals, the Browns officially activated Chubb back onto their 53-man roster.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski has also confirmed this week that he expects Chubb to play. They have not given him a definitive workload, but one can imagine he will not get bellcow touches in his first game back.

How long has Nick Chubb been out?

After tearing both his ACL and MCL in Week 2 of the 2023 season, Chubb has undergone two bouts of surgery on his knee to get back to where he is today. Now, for the first time in 13 months, the superstar running back returns to the field for the Browns.

Browns running back depth chart

The Browns need Chubb back as their starting running back since Jerome Ford‘s injury is out in this game against the Bengals. Leaving with an ankle injury against the Philadelphia Eagles a week ago, Ford did not practice this week before being ruled out.

Nyheim Hines has also yet to be activated from the Non-Football Injury list. This leaves the Browns with D’Onta Foreman and Pierre Strong Jr. set to take on carries as they will more than likely ease Chubb back into a full workload.
