Netflix’s Buzziest New Show Nobody Wants This Has Been Renewed For A Second Season

This article contains Nobody Wants This season one spoilers!!!!

Nobody Wants This is the latest show making group chat around the world pop the fuck off. It’s got everything I crave in a show — likeable characters, a realistic love story, humour, and early 2000s icons Adam Brody and Kristen Bell. And now, in some incredible news, it’s officially been renewed for another season of warm and fuzzy goodness.

The romantic-comedy series first landed on Netflix on September 26 and within days, viewers were already begging for a second season.

The series follows the love story of an outspoken sex and dating podcaster named Joanne (Kristen Bell) who meets a recently single Rabbi named Noah (Adam Brody) at a friend’s dinner party. After some witty repartee, it’s clear that the pair have a connection. While Noah and Joanne have a romantic spark, their different lifestyles make dating difficult.

He’s a Rabbi from a conservative family who dreams of leading his synagogue’s congregation. Whereas Joanne is a “shiksa”, a disparaging term for a non-Jewish woman who Noah’s family doesn’t approve of.

Instead of the ‘will they, won’t they’ rhetoric we’re so used to, the cornerstone of Nobody Wants This is the new love between Joanne and Noah. It’s the outside factors that they have to battle to stay together that makes the show so goddamn interesting.

The series was based on the life of podcaster Erin Foster, who fell in love with her Jewish husband Simon Tikhaam and converted to Judaism before they got married.

But here’s the thing: Will Joanne follow in Erin’s footsteps in season two? Or will she take a huge left turn and fuck it all up? Who knows!!!!

Has Nobody Wants This been renewed for season 2?

I’ve got some great news — Nobody Wants This has already been picked up for season two! In fact, the writers have been madly scurrying away for the last three weeks to get things going.

Foster revealed the exciting update on The World’s First Podcast which she co-hosts with her sister Sara Foster.

“Now it’s been announced that we’re getting a season two which we’ve known for a couple of weeks but the world didn’t know,” Erin said.

“We started the writer’s room like three weeks ago so I’ve been hiding it from everybody but it’s really good so far.”

When asked by her husband whether she was nervous about writing season two after the huge success of the first season, Erin said she wasn’t nervous at all.

“I have it all inside of me,” she quipped.

“I’m not going to change the formula. Whatever we did in season one worked so I’m not gonna try make some weird artistic choice season two and do something totally different. I’m going to give the people what they want.”

Now that’s what we like to hear!!!!!

What does the cast want to happen in Nobody Wants This season 2?

In the final episode of season one, we find out that Noah is being primed for his dream job as the head Rabbi of his local synagogue. But in the top gig, he can’t be with a non-Jewish woman so he asked Joanne if she would convert to Judaism for him. While she says yes at first, she soon realises that she misunderstood the significance of converting and that if she did convert, it wouldn’t be for the right reasons.

They break up, but the season ends with Noah choosing Joanne. It’s not really a cliffhanger, but it does make the audience wonder how they’re going to navigate their lives with their differences in faith.

If season two takes place, Foster and the cast have some ideas of what they want to see happen.

“The story in season one unfolds really slowly,” Foster says.

“I think if there is a season two I would want to just kind of pick up where we leave off and continue to take it slow, because I don’t want us to get too far ahead of ourselves. I mean, I want my show to be on the air as long as possible!”

While Adam Brody is hopeful for a second season, he admitted to Today that he doesn’t know what would be in store for Joanne and Noah.

“It’s such an open-ended ending,” he said.

“I think that we get the impression that they’re going to try to make it work and be together. And so what that looks like? I don’t think they know.”

Kristen Bell is content either way.

“The reason you watch a show is to decide will they or won’t they,” she said.

“I’m happy with the beautiful way this particular story ended, and I feel like there is so much real estate to play with when you are writing about the challenges of navigating different outlooks on life and meddling family members and settling down and compromising and lust and love and all those things. And if I had an answer for you, we would not be able to do a second season.”

If you haven’t seen it just yet — and are craving a series that’ll entertain and scratch your early 2000s nostalgia — you can give season one of Nobody Wants This a watch on Netflix in eager preparation for season two.
