Calling all late-night budget fried chicken snafflers: it’s time to shed the shame and step out of the shadows, for a new collaboration has arrived to enable your vice. Culinary superbrand Heinz has teamed up with legendary London chicken shop Morley’s on a 150 seater pop-up restaurant at the Standard Hotel.
For one month from Monday 7th August until Sunday 3rd September, the affordable chain - which has made appearances in Stormzy’s Big For Your Boots music video and Amelia Dimoldenberg’s Chicken Shop Dates series - will be ditching its usual choice of strangely refreshing luminous red, vinegar-forward unbranded ketchup at this King’s Cross location.
Instead, here the brand’s crispy, delightfully grease-sodden fried chicken will be served with a new, limited edition condiment: Morley’s x Heinz Fried Chicken Sauce, which you won’t be able to sample anywhere else.
The rest will be your usual order made fancy. Instead of crouching over a soggy box like a light-starved gremlin, here you can enjoy your fast food at a table with a luxurious wipe-clean tablecloth and absolutely no fluorescent lighting.
The jazzed-up menu will feature the classic combo meal alongside a chicken drumstick with caviar, smoky chipotle hot wings, a chicken fillet burger, double cheeseburger, a tower of 20 wings, as well as fried chicken-topped waffles with a tingly hot honey glaze and popcorn chicken or cauliflower.
For pud there’s caramelised apple doughnuts based on the iconic Morley’s apple pie and a sundae built with chocolate or Mirinda pop-flavoured ice cream, sprinkled with wacky Heinz Tomato Ketchup sherbert.
Moreover, unlike your usual visits or bed-bound UberEats deliveries, this time you’ll be able to wash it all down with something much more exciting, such as a frozen mango margarita, a spiked Coke float, grape soda with vodka, cinnamon and lime, or even just an ice cold pint.
Plus, throughout the pop-up there’ll be boogle inducing nights with DJ sets by Vanessa Maria (11th Aug), Shy One and Albertina (19th Aug), Slowjams with A (AAA) (25th Aug) and Oneman and Martelo (2nd Sept).
Tempted? Just don’t go forgetting about your trusty local bossman.
