Marathon is an entirely different experience when you play with friends. However, if you don’t have enough players for a full crew, you might end up at a disadvantage, considering the current state of duo-queue.
Here’s everything we know so far about the Duos playlist in Marathon and Bungie’s foreseeable plans for it.

Does Marathon have a Duos playlist?

As of the game’s launch, you can play Marathon as a solo player or in a crew of up to three players by toggling the crew fill option. If you play as a solo player with crew fill off, you’ll face other solo players, which is the most challenging experience in the game.
However, the same doesn’t work if you opt to play in a duo without crew fill. If you and your friend queue without crew fill, the game puts you into regular trio lobbies, where you will encounter full squads. And while low time-to-kill (TTK) may allow you to wipe full teams, you’ll still be at a disadvantage from the get-go.
Is Marathon getting a Duos playlist?

On March 18, Bungie is rolling out an experimental duo-queue feature for two weeks, as it acknowledged the feedback from the Server Slam playtest. The test allows premade teams to queue on Perimeter against other duos and is a way for the developer to test the feature on a larger scale.
There’s no estimated timeline for when the studio may implement the final version of the duo-queue. For the foreseeable future of Season 1, your only options outside of the experimental tests are to either play with random teammates or face larger squads when playing as a duo.
If you do decide to queue as a duo against trios, bring enough healing items and choose Runner Shells that can gather intel, like Recon or Thief. Triage will also be a great help, as it will keep the team alive for significantly longer, and most squads will likely have a Triage of their own.
