Is Keyshawn the Next Floyd Mayweather?

Enthusiasts and punters who visit sites like Lottoland to find boxing betting lines believe that Keyshawn Davis has what it takes to become the next Floyd Mayweather. Davis, who is set to face Nahir Albright on October 15, has left some major voices in the boxing industry, including Top Rank’s head, Todd DuBoef, calling the 24-year-old boxer the next Floyd Mayweather

But what remains a little contentious is whether the two boxers have any similarities, and if they do, does David have what it takes to fit in Mayweather’s otherwise enormous shoes?

This write-up looks into the basic similarities between Keyshawn Davis and Floyd Mayweather to see how the two boxers compare. Let us know what you think in the comment section.

Both Hold an Unbeaten Record

At age 24, Keyshawn Davis has been through nine fights in which he hasn't lost a single one. He has won six of those through knockouts. His current record stands at (9-0 KO 6).

Floyd Mayweather was also unbeaten at that age, although he faced more opponents, having debuted professionally in his teens.

He held an unbeaten record of 25 fights and had won 19 of them through a knockout.

Physical Dimensions

Both Keyshawn and Mayweather have almost similar physical dimensions. Keyshawn towers above his counterpart at 5 ft 9 in against 5 ft 8 in. However, Floyd has a slightly longer reach at 72 in against 70 in.

You can say the two have similar physical characteristics since a difference of one or two inches isn't that much.

Keyshawn is also said to be physically mature, just like Mayweather was when starting his professional boxing career.

Both Hold an Olympic Medal

The two fighters have participated in the Olympics and won medals at different times, proving their capabilities. Mayweather got a bronze from the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, while Davis holds a silver medal from the 2020 Olympics. This proves that although young, Davis’ capabilities must be considered.

Weight Division

The two have fought and won several times in the same weight division, the lightweight division. Mayweather would go on to fight in other divisions, including featherweight, welterweight, middle lightweight, and light welterweight divisions.

The lightweight division is also renowned as a robust producer of names and talent.

Their Nicknames

Another similar characteristic is their nicknames. They get their inspiration from cash and businesses. Keyshawn Davis has The Businessman as a nickname, while Mayweather was referred to as the Money for a time during his professional career.

Another reason for comparing The Best Ever and Davis is because of some proponents of this debate, mainly Top Rank’s Todd DuBoef, Keyshawn himself, and Floyd Mayweather's belief in Keyshawn.

Todd DuBoef Comparing Keyshawn Davis to Floyd Mayweather

During a media interview with Sky Sports and other media houses, Todd lit the debate by comparing Keyshawn and Mayweather. He said that Keyshawn is set to be the next Mayweather. In his opinion, Keyshawn is “special.”

Todd implied that Keyshawn has a great personality because he is great to interview and talk to and has a visible glint in his eyes, all qualities of a great pugilist.

Todd also noted that Keyshawn has every element needed to make him the next Mayweather, and the world should watch his steps in the next year. He is of the opinion that Keyshawn is making great professional strides that will eventually lead him to greatness.

Keyshawn Davis Opinion on Todd DuBoef’s Comments

The rising star also seems to believe he is the next Mayweather, supporting Todd DuBoef’s earlier comments. Keyshawn says that Todd has been an insider to Floyd’s whole career. He believes Todd has a concrete reason to make such remarks since he knows and has seen both Mayweather and Keyshawn fight. To further express this belief, Keyshawn says he is going to live up to this assertion.

What Floyd Mayweather Thinks of Keyshawn Davis

In recent days, Mayweather has been hanging out more often with Keyshawn, further fueling this debate. Being the best ever means that the retired champion will only invest his time in people he believes have the guts to follow in his steps. Mayweather has been spotted severally in the gym helping Keyshawn and his brother Kelvin Davis train.

Mayweather has seen Keyshawn fight and has helped him train and believes Keyshawn has the fighting spirit in him. He says the Businessman can give you a “helluva” fight.

Conclusion

The two stars may have some similarities. Comparing a rising star to one of the greatest of all time is still a bold step for several reasons. Mayweather is already retired, while Keyshawn is in the early stages of his professional career. Only time will tell whether Keyshawn will live up to Mayweather’s great reputation or exceed it.
