Ireland is set to see a wet start to the bank holiday weekend as a band of rain moves in from the west on Friday evening.
Showers will become more persistent as the weekend continues, with Saturday night to see heavy downpours in places.
A forecaster said: “Latest weather model charts for weekend show a lot of cloud and showers with breeze increasing. Still some uncertainty but likely cloud and rain arriving in the West Friday and pushing East.”

However, although August will get off to an unsettled start Met Eireann has forecasted things to improve as the month continues.
A forecaster said: “The longer range weather model trends show a chance of more settled weather for the first half of August. Obviously at this range there is uncertainty but remember August is still summer in the Meteorological seasons!”
Meanwhile, it will be mostly cloudy for the rest of the day with scattered showers, with the odd heavy one possible in the southwest and across the midlands later.
A little cooler than average with highest temperatures of 15 to 18 or 19 degrees in mainly light southeasterly breezes.
Most areas will stay dry and calm overnight, with just an isolated shower about.
Some mist and a few fog patches will develop later with the lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees.
Tomorrow will bring a mix of cloud and sunny spells along with a few showers. The showers will be most frequent in the east and northeast.
Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 or 21 degrees, warmest in the west, in a light southeast to east or variable breeze.
Thursday night will be dry with clear spells and a few shallow patches of mist and fog forming around dawn.
Lowest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in a light southeasterly or variable breeze.
It will be mostly dry with sunny spells on Friday morning. However, cloud will build in the west and patches of light rain or drizzle will develop near the coast, where it will become breezy.
Cloud will increase across the rest of the country during the afternoon and evening, bringing outbreaks of rain or drizzle.
Some heavy bursts are possible in the west and north, where the rain may be persistent for a time.
Highest temperatures of 17 to 22 degrees in a light to moderate south to southwest wind, fresh at times near the west and northwest coast.
The rain will ease off and become patchy on Friday night. It will be milder than recent nights, with temperatures staying above 14 to 16 degrees in a light to moderate westerly wind.
Saturday will be quite cloudy and humid with scattered showers, although some sunny breaks are likely later in the afternoon.
During the evening, some rain will develop in parts of the west. Highest temperatures ranging between 17 degrees in the northwest and 21 degrees in the southeast, in a light southwest to west or variable breeze.
Outbreaks of rain are likely to develop more widely on Saturday night, with the potential for some heavy downpours in places.
After a wet start to Sunday, it will gradually turn drier and brighter during the day with some showers.
The early days of next week look unsettled, with temperatures near to normal.
