Leeds United supporters were in awe of wonderkid Mateo Joseph after he bagged four goals against Derby County U21s. An emphatic 5-2 victory against the Rams got Michael Skubala’s youngsters’ Premier League 2 campaign off to a flyer.
The hero was 18-year-old Joseph - signed from Espanyol in January - who bagged a first-half hat-trick before adding a fourth in the second half. Sonny Perkins completed the rout in front of an 831-strong crowd at Pride Park.
Whites fans were quick to react on social media following Joseph’s showing. Some sarcastically suggested Leeds no longer need to sign a striker to shadow Patrick Bamford.

Others jokingly asked if the Spaniard is available for the Premier League opener against Wolves. This was the response on social media after the U23s claimed victory.
@ShearOfLight: "Excellent. We don't need another player after all."
@OhioStateNiner: "Get him in the 1st team squad! We’ve found Bamford’s replacement. Better value than De Ketelaere!"
@JXCKLUFC: "Mateo Joseph Hat trick, love to see it. Good start to the season for the Leeds’ youngsters."
@allan_howe: "We’re not signing a new striker now, are we?"
@RevAMol: "Is he available tomorrow? #lufc"
