Gogglebox will start its new series on Friday night, with Channel 4 declaring that it want to provide viewers with a 'sense of continuity' in difficult times.
In the aftermath of Her Majesty The Queen's death on Thursday afternoon, significant changes have been made to the schedules of all five main TV channels in the UK, including Channel 4, which has aired more news coverage than normal in response to her passing, as well as suspending adverts.
In the hours that followed The Queen's death, Channel 4 scrapped the latest episode of Naked Attraction's new series but, in a statement released on Friday afternoon, bosses confirmed Gogglebox's new series will be on.
The statement read: "Channel 4 has made significant changes to our schedule, including added extended news coverage, to ensure that Channel 4 is respectful following the news from Buckingham Palace about the death of Her Majesty The Queen.
“Channel 4 exists to offer viewers an alternative and that is particularly important at times like this.
“Gogglebox is a much loved national institution and it will air as planned tonight bringing a valuable sense of continuity for many of our viewers.”
Goggleboxs new series, featuring returning cast members like Jenny and Lee, Gyles and Marry and The Malones, will start at 9pm on Friday.
