Is Fitbit down? Users report errors

Fitbit users are reporting major problems with the Fitbit app. If you are seeing error messages, you are not alone.

The company’s support X account acknowledged the issue in a tweet.

“We’re aware that some customers are experiencing issues with the Fitbit app and we are currently investigating. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, thank you for your patience,” @Fitbitsupport posted.

The issue appears to affect logging into the app and syncing wearables’ data to the Fitbit app.

We tried to sync a Fitbit Sense 2 with the app on the morning of October 12. While a manual sync was a little slow, which is nothing particularly new for a Fitbit, it did work after refusing to do so on the initial attempt.

However, as of 8am, Fitbit acknlowedged the problem is still going for at least some users.

“We apologize. Our team is still working on a fix for this. Thanks for your patience and understanding,” @Fitbitsupport replied to one Fitbit owner.

According to Downdetector, the issue’s reported cases spiked around the time of 11.30pm to midnight on October 11 until 2am, with much lower levels of reports continuing on the morning of October 12.

Fitbit has not announced the reason for these problems, but issues of this kind are typically caused by certain kinds of server going offline.

At present, Google is in the process of merging Google Fit and Fitbit account information and, if you buy a new Fitbit, you’ll be prompted to use your Google login instead of an existing Fitbit one.
