Yesterday ASOS sent fashion fans into a frenzy, as it launched a new 'Sample Sale' website where thousands of current-season items, some worth upwards of £140, were reduced to as little as £5. The ASOS sale website went viral, and fans of the brand rushed to get their hands on budget Summer dresses, jumpsuits, trousers, shorts, skirts and tops.
But many ASOS fans thought the website deal was 'too good to be true', and struggled to believe that it wasn't a ‘scam’. On the site thousands of ASOS-owned brands have been reduced by up to 90% off their original price.
And with deals as good as these, fans took to social media to question whether the site is real or fake, and sending the likes of Facebook, Instagram and TikTok into a total meltdown.

One hopeful shopper wrote: “I’ve just ordered… I really hope this is legit”. A second questioned: “Is this legit?”
A third added: “I think it’s fake”. Clearly there’s a lot of confusion around the new ASOS site. So, in a bid to find out what’s actually going on, we asked ASOS ourselves, and here’s what they said.
One of the reasons for the confusion regarding the pop-up site is the fact that to login to the sample sale site, shoppers need to create a new account and cannot use their regular ASOS login details. However, ASOS have also confirmed that this is simply a feature of the new site and nothing to be concerned about.
ASOS confirmed that the ASOS Sample Sale website is a legitimate pop-up website where UK customers can buy a selection of ASOS items at sample sale prices but only for a limited time. So, no it’s not a 'scam'. It’s a legitimate site run by ASOS and the incredible deals are actually real.
ASOS also confirmed that asossamplesale.com has a selection of over 2,000 women's and men's products from ASOS-owned brands like ASOS Design and ASOS Edition, all available for £5 each, with a discount of up to 90% off.
The site is a competitor for other discount clothing sites such as Everything5Pounds, which have proved a hit with shoppers looking for cheap fashion items.
But, why have ASOS launched such a cheap site and why are so many items on sale? Turns out, it’s pretty simple. A spokesperson for ASOS explained: “The site is part of ASOS’ plans to right-size its stock portfolio, as announced at full-year results in October 2022.
"In our P3 trading update on 15 June we reported that ASOS is on track to deliver a 20% year-on-year reduction in stockholding by the end of its current financial year, with inventory in P3 down by c.15% on FY22."
Now that we’ve cleared up the rumours, if you’re thinking of loading up your cart, we would advise that you run, don't walk - because once it’s gone, it’s gone.
