The £650 cost of living payment for people claiming some benefits will be split into two installments, with the first half due to be paid into accounts in July.
Around 8.4 million claimants will get the money under the scheme announced by Chancellor Rishi Sunak as part of a string of emergency measures. Mr Sunak had come under pressure to act amid rising bills and an incoming increase to the energy cap due in October
Those who receive means-tested benefits, like Universal Credit and Tax Credits, are eligible for the cash. When you get them depends on what you are claiming. Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support, Pension Credit and Universal Credit claimants will get theirs first. People on Tax Credits won't get any cash until the autumn.
