An Irish woman was rescued from a lake in Co Galway after she got into difficulty swimming on Monday.
The woman bravely kept herself alive for 90 minutes as she waited for rescue personnel to locate her.
It is understood the swimmer aged in her 40s decided to go for a dip in Lough Rea.
The search operation started on the eastern shore and expanded throughout the 260 hectares of the lake.
The Irish Coast Guard Rescue 115 helicopter based at Shannon, rescue crews from Galway city and local people also joined the search.
After over an hour and a half, when darkness approached and chances of finding the woman faded, the swimmer was finally located.
She was found in the middle of the lake, removed by rescue services and taken to a waiting ambulance on the shore.
The swimmer received treatment and was said to be struggling and very cold but not injured, reports Galway Beo.
