Hundreds of students were spotted queuing outside a pub in Cork city from early morning on Wednesday as Fresher's Week celebrations continue.
The eager students began arriving at the doors of Annie Mac's pub on Bandon Road shortly after 8am for a live DJ party that was due to begin at 12pm.
Not fazed by the almost five hour wait, hundreds of students joined the line as the morning continued.
Local residents saw students queuing for several hundred yards along the pavement down from the doors of the pub.
And by around 10 am, the queue was four deep and stretched down the Glasheen Road.
Gardai arrived at the scene shortly after 10 am to take up traffic management duties and ensure there was no danger to students queuing on both sides of the road and passing motorists.
Gardai had also asked some students to move on from the line outside Annie Macs in the hopes of reducing the size of the queue.
At one stage, there were four Garda vans on the scene, but students cooperated, and Gardai were able to keep the traffic flowing on Bandon Road.
One student told CorkBeo : "It's a bit of craic. There's a DJ meant to be playing today. There are people who have been waiting since 8 am. It's meant to be great fun, and we're so excited to be back in for the new term."
A local resident was "shocked" by the size of the queues that formed this morning.
They said: "It's been so quiet here the past two days. But it's a bit mad to see these queues. Pubs in the area don't open till 12.
"I'm very grateful that the Gardai showed up and were able to help with traffic and make sure everything moves smoothly."
The students are back to college this week - and Cork city centre is hopping every night as Freshers see UCC and MTU scholars flock to their favourite bars.
Monday night saw swarms of students waiting in line to get into popular Leeside clubs like An Brog, Voodoo and Conway's Yard.
