Ollie was once on the books for a big Premiership team in the 1990s and later went on to play for several high-profile football teams during his long career, reports Galway Beo.
A video shared on his Facebook page showing his recuperation process was posted earlier this week.
He captioned the post: "Baby steps!"
Many people took to the comments to cheer on his recovery, which has been going on for a few months.
One person wrote: "Good man Ollie, delighted to see ya up and about again!"
Meanwhile, another said: "You'll be back playing footie and gigging before you know it!"
A fundraiser has also been started asking Galway United supporters to get behind A Night For Ollie to support of the beloved local's recovery.
