Irish Refugee Council offers advice on how you can offer Ukrainian refugees accommodation

The Irish Refugee Council has offered advice to people who are looking to offer Ukrainian refugees some accommodation.

Over a million people have now left the war-torn country, as Russian invaders force natives to flee.

A special focus from RTÉ Prime Time on Thursday night brought the horrific scenes home for many Irish people, with children left screaming in tears at train stations near the Ukraine border with Hungary.

Ireland is set to open the country to thousands of those who are fleeing, with visa requirements being waived for Ukrainians.

And the Irish Refugee Council has now published advice on how to offer your home or accommodation to those who will need it from the eastern European country.

A post from the Council reads: "Currently we are focusing on giving advice and information to people trying to leave Ukraine. If you are interested in offering accommodation please complete this short form so we can compile a list of accommodation offers and try to match them.

"Please note that we may not be able take forward an offer of accommodation and completing this form is not a guarantee that your offer will be taken forward.

"We are a small organisation with ongoing and wide ranging commitments to all people who are applying for asylum and due to the volume of very generous offers we have received we may not be able to respond to you individually. Please contact community@irishrefugeecouncil.ie if you have any questions."
