A man from Kerry has revealed how he reduced his electricity bill by 25% using a lesser-known technique with his energy supplier.
TikTok user @phonesavers took to the video-sharing app to advise that instead of trying to figure out comparison websites to find the best deal, he just called his supplier.
He said that people need to say specific things to ensure that they get the deal, and it involves speaking to one team.

The TikToker @phonesavers said: “Little tip how to reduce your ESB bill by probably 25% like I did.
“What you do is you ring your current ESB electricity provider, and you talk to probably the gatekeeper, and I think they are instructed to give probably about a 10% reduction on your bill.
“I had that. It was a 10% reduction, and I said can I speak to someone else, and he sent me to a retention team. A customer retention team. That's what you ask for.”
He stated that after being offered the lesser reduction, you should explain that it’s not “good enough”.
He continued: “After the 10% offer, you say, 'look, it's not really good enough. I'm a good customer. I pay my bill on time. I'm with you for a long time blah blah', and they put you onto the retention team.
“Then you'll get a probably around a 25% reduction is what I got when you take out a years contract, and that's the only way to do it really.
“All these comparison websites, you get really lost.”
The Kerry native shared that you should prepare yourself by keeping one of your most recent electricity bills nearby for your account details.
He said: “Just have your bill handy, your MPRN number and your current bill say, look this is the way it is, and you get a 25% reduction.
“You can also do this with your broadband provider. I got double my speed on my broadband.
“I have two broadbands, and basically I asked for somebody else to speak to, thank you, and they sent me to somebody else, and I got double my broadband speed, and I got €20 a month reduction.
“It's well worth doing, and besides going on these comparison websites, just ask for a retention team and that you're a good customer and you deserve a good break, and you'll save 25%.”
