The wait for another Irish player will go on after James McCourt was cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
McCourt looked set to make his NFL debut after making the 53-man roster yesterday but was cut on Wednesday.
McCourt was born in Dublin and kicked at University of Illinois and was poised to be the first Irish player to play in the NFL since Neil O’Donoghue played for the St Louis Cardinals in 1985.
The Florida outfit opted to sign Riley Patterson.
There is still hope for McCourt with two weeks until a team's season opener.
The NFL season kicks off on 8th September while the full slate of games are set to be played on September 11.
And McCourt impressed in practice meaning there is still a chance he will be picked up by a team during the season.
