One Irish-trained horse has seen her Cheltenham Festival odds plummet following the announcement of the weights for the meeting on Wednesday.
Kim Muir hopeful Angels Dawn's odds have shortened dramatically with William Hill, with the firm slashing her price down to 6/1 from 14s.
Sam Curling’s mare has been handed a handicap mark of 131, only three pounds higher than her Irish mark, after unseating young jockey Cian Quirke when last seen in action in a Grand National trial.
The eight-year-old mare was sent off the 15/8 favourite for the Punchestown contest and was going well when unseating at the second last in a race won by former Thyestes winner Coko Beach, who led home a 1-2-3 for trainer Gordon Elliott.
Another Irish horse that has come in for support (12/1 from 14/1) ahead of Cheltenham is the Willie Mullins-trained Sharjah, after the six-time Grade 1 winner received a mark of 155 in the County Handicap Hurdle.
Sharjah finished second in the 2021 and 2020 runnings of the Champion Hurdle behind Honeysuckle and Epatante respectively.
Meanwhile in the Triumph Hurdle market, William Hill reports money for Blood Destiny (2/1 from 9/4), against market leader and stablemate Lossiemouth.
William Hill Spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “Punters still eyeing some ante-post value have turned their attention to the handicaps at the Cheltenham Festival, and one horse that has caught their attention is Angels Dawn, who was available at 14/1 earlier but is now a best-priced 6/1.
“Sharjah has shortened to 12/1 with the expectation that he will drop back to handicap company over obstacles for the first time in the County Hurdle, while another Willie Mullins horse for support has been Blood Destiny, who is now 2/1 and is close to challenging Lossiemouth (6/4) for favouritism in the Triumph market.”
