Irish ghost hunters record bone-chilling 'spirit voice crying for help' in historic Tipperary castle

Ghost hunters claim to have made the first ever audio recording in Ireland of a spirit supposedly calling out for help.

They say a tortured ghoul at 12th century Lackeen Castle near Abbeville in Co Tipperary begged: “Help me.”

The words of the spooky encounter can be heard on a video recording by Paranormal Awakenings Ireland team PJ Kavanagh and Philip Costello.

PJ, 63, from Galway, told the Irish Mirror: “It is the first voice recording of a spirit voice by any paranormal group in Ireland.

“It is so rare that an American paranormal society, which includes sceptics, are dedicating a podcast to it.”

The video was recorded on a camcorder’s night-vision mode in a haunted castle at Lorrha, near Abbeville, on May 26.

The ancient building, also known as O’Kennedy Castle, was rebuilt in the 16th century. It was owned by Irish chieftain Brian Ua Cinneide Fionn, who died in 1588.

A famous religious 9th century manuscript called the Stowe Missal – which is a small Mass book of the early Irish Church – was found there and may have been written at the spot, according to the Royal Irish Academy in Dublin.

The Lorrha Missal became known as the Stowe Missal when its former owner, the Duke of Buckingham at Stowe House in Buckinghamshire, England, sold it in 1849. It was eventually put on display by the RIA.

Former roofer PJ said: “During restoration work at the castle in the 18th century, John O’Kennedy is credited with finding the Stowe Missal hidden in the walls.

“It is believed the Mass book was in use at Lorrha during the 11th century and later discovered inside a bejewelled metal box.

“We went there because of its amazing history.

“I was there before, around five years ago and captured a dark shadow in a photo. I wanted to go back to explore some more.

“I had unfinished business and was compelled to go back.

“I recorded a video of a spirit saying, ‘Help me’. I only saw it on playback. It is ground-breaking.

“We also recorded another spirit at the top of a staircase in the castle.

“We don’t know what it is exactly, but it looks like someone bending over and kneeling down.

“It looked straight at us. It was chilling. A podcast by the World Paranormal Research Society is going to air the recording of the spirit.”
