Declan Rice missed a penalty as West Ham United lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest this afternoon, and Irish fans are delighted.
Rice infamously wore the irish shirt on three occasions as a senior international before donning the white of England. The West Ham captain has in the past spoken about how he always wanted to play for England, a revelation that rubbed Ireland fans up the wrong way.
It's no surprise then, that after Rice's miss from the spot this afternoon, irish fans took to Twitter to revel in Rice's misfortune.
Seán tweeted, "Confirmed! Declan Rice is in fact the quality Man Utd are looking for! He will fit right in there!"
Declan on the other hand, decided to simply post a picture of Father Ted laughing in response to Rice's miss.
Twitter page 'Irish Propaganda' went the statistical route, saying "Declan Rice vs Nottingham Forest: Penalty missed 1 tackle won Loss Keep it up Declan man."
While Gary commented on Sky Sports tweet of the missed penalty by simply posting an image of Rice wearing an Ireland jersey while playing for Martin O'Neill.
A bad day all round for the 23-year old, but perhaps the suggestions he'd fit right in at Manchester United are a bit harsh.
