Ireland weather U-turn herds stunning weekend but Met Eireann forecast exact day temps fall to 10C

Ireland is set to enjoy a stunning weekend, as a weather U-turn brings warm, dry and bright conditions.

Met Eireann says: “High pressure across Ireland will bring largely dry weather and spells of sunshine this weekend with temperatures in the mid to high teens.”

It marks a dramatic change from the unsettled conditions the country has experienced over recent days, thanks to a “revved up jet stream” from the Atlantic bringing in sudden spells of rain, thunder and strong winds.

But the glorious weekend weather won’t last for long, as the national forecaster has warned that daytime temperatures on Monday could fall as low as 10C.

This is just half of the almost 20C temperatures that parts of Ireland can expect at times on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

It comes as weather expert Alan O’Reilly shared maps of the weekend weather on his Carlow Weather Twitter account, writing: “Time to dig out that sun cream, plenty of sunshine over Friday and the weekend.”

Here’s a day-by-day breakdown of Met Eireann’s weather forecast for the coming days.

Thursday, May 26

A post on the Met Eireann website reads: “Showery outbreaks of rain mainly confined to Munster and parts of Leinster this afternoon will gradually clear south by this evening with drier weather and sunny spells in northern parts extending to all areas. Highest temperatures of 13C to 18C, or even a little cooler in the northern and western fringes in moderate to fresh westerly winds.

“Tonight will be rather chilly, but dry and largely clear. However, it will be cloudier over Ulster and north Connacht with the chance of isolated drizzle patches there. A few mist and fog patches will develop as winds ease light westerly or variable. Lowest temperatures of 4C to 8C generally, or even a little cooler locally in the south.”

Friday, May 27

The national forecaster continued: “Friday, will be a dry and sunny day over most of the country. However, it will be cloudier for a time in Ulster with the chance of an isolated drizzle patch in the morning. Highest temperatures of 13C in the north to 19C in the south in light to moderate northwest winds.

“Largely dry on Friday night with long clear spells, though it will be cloudier at times over Ulster. A cool night with lowest temperatures of 5C to 8C in a light northerly breeze.”

Saturday, May 28

“Another dry day with spells of sunshine, though there will be isolated light showers in the north. A rather warm day for much of the country with highest temperatures of 16C to 19C generally, though it will be cooler in north Ulster in light to moderate northerly winds.

“Staying dry with clear spells on Saturday night. Lowest temperatures of 5C to 9C in a light to moderate northerly breeze,” the State meteorological service said.

Sunday, May 29

It continued: “Mostly dry with sunny spells. However, there is the chance of a few light showers in the north and east. Highest temperatures of 14C to 18C, though it will once again be cooler in north Ulster in moderate northeasterly winds.

“Becoming slightly cloudier overnight with scattered light showers spreading from the north. Lowest temperatures of 5C to 9C.”

Monday, May 30

Looking ahead to next week, Met Eireann said: “A cooler and cloudier day on Monday with well scattered light showers. Highest temperatures of 10C to 14C in a light to moderate northerly breeze.”

Early next week

Its outlook for early next week reads: “Current indications suggest that the early part of next week will bring sunny spells and a few light showers. Daytime temperatures will generally reach the mid-teens.”
