Ireland is in for a windy weekend with strong gusts forecast across Saturday and Sunday.
Ominous weather models show fronts moving in from the Atlantic and crossing Ireland.
Met Eireann says Saturday “looks set to be a rather cloudy and wet day with outbreaks of rain”, while Sunday “looks set to be a chilly and blustery day with widespread showers and some sunny spells”.
Parts of Ireland could also see some wintry showers, with hail and sleet forecast for hills in the north.
Temperatures are likely to stay mild this weekend before a big swing to colder weather later next week.
Met Eireann says Saturday will see “strong west or southwest winds along with gales on exposed coasts”, while Sunday will see “fresh westerly winds”.

Giving its full forecast for Saturday, Met Eireann wrote on its website: “Saturday looks set to be a rather cloudy and wet day with outbreaks of rain. The rain will be most persistent in the west and north of the country with the best of any dry or bright interludes in the east and south.
“Maximum temperatures of 8C to 11C in strong west or southwest winds along with gales on exposed coasts.”
Looking ahead to Sunday, it continued: “Sunday looks set to be a chilly and blustery day with widespread showers and some sunny spells. A few hail or sleet showers will occur over hills in the north.
“Highest temperatures of 6C to 9C in fresh westerly winds. A few showers early on Sunday night along with rather chilly conditions initially with lows of 1C to 4C. However, cloudier and milder conditions with scattered outbreaks of rain will move across the country later in the night.”
Next week is set to remain unsettled with rain or showers on most days.
Temperatures are due to turn milder before a swing to cold later next week.
Weather expert Alan O’Reilly shared his prediction on his Carlow Weather Twitter account along with a weather map.
“Temperatures on a bit of a rollercoaster over the next 7-10 days, cool tomorrow but turning back milder again before cold returns later next week.
“Animation shows upper air temp forecast by GFS weather model,” he said.
Met Eireann is in agreement with the mild weather, forecasting highs of up to 14C on Monday and 13C on Tuesday.
It marks a big change from the current cold conditions, after the National Forecaster said: "A much colder air mass pushes in across Ireland later on Thursday night.
"So a more wintry feel to our weather on Friday with the risk of ice along with some blustery wintry showers.
"Temperatures recovering again over the weekend."
