Ireland weather: Met Eireann warn of arctic conditions as temperatures set to plummet

Met Eireann have warned that polar conditions are on the way for Ireland over the next few nights as clear skies will see temperatures plummet to below freezing.

And though things are set to stay nice and dry for the next few days, you will have to wrap up warm in the evening if the latest forecast is anything to by.

The only spot of rain before the weekend will mainly affect two areas of the country.

A Met Eireann spokesperson said that Wednesday "will be mainly dry with sunny spells and a few showers in north Ulster. Highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees."

But tonight is where the issues kick in, as they added "Tonight will be cold and dry with clear spells. Frost will develop in many areas. Some patches of mist or fog will develop also. Lowest temperatures of -1 to 3 degrees."

It's a similar situation on Thursday, according to Met Eireann, who say that the day will "be dry with bright or sunny spells with highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees" before things get chilly once the sun goes down, adding " It will be cloudier over Connacht and Ulster with a little patchy drizzle developing in coastal areas. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +4 degrees, coldest in Leinster and Munster with frost and some patches of mist or fog developing."

And things are much the same on Friday according to the latest charts - mainly dry with some bright spells and breezes.

The Met Eireann spokesperson continued: "There may be a little drizzle at time on west and northwest coasts. Highest temperatures of 6 to 8 degrees with light breezes. Friday evening will be mainly dry with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of -1 to 5 degrees, coldest in Leinster and Munster with frost and some mist or fog patches developing."

But the good news is that the dry patch will stretch into next week - however (typically for Ireland), it could be ended by a spell of snow!
