Ireland weather: Met Eireann reveal two areas that'll get soaked as rest of country set for dry spell

Ireland will see a mostly dry weekend, but Met Eireann have warned there's a bitter twist during the evenings to watch out for.

The country has seen a largely settled week so far with the exception of a shower here or there, and that's set to continue in the next few days. But the latest Met Eireann prediction has said that temperatures will plummet, falling below freezing once the sun goes down.

On top of that, not every area of the country is safe from the rain showers, with the west and northwest at risk first.

A Met Eireann spokesperson said: "Friday will be largely dry and cloudy with a few limited bright or sunny spells, mainly in the east and south. There will be some patchy drizzle at times on western and northwestern coasts. Highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in light or moderate southwesterly breezes.

When Saturday comes, so do those showers, but you shouldn't need to wrap up too well in the day time, as the spokesperson explains: "Saturday will continue mostly cloudy with some patchy drizzle in the northwest and just a few bright or sunny spells elsewhere. Highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees"

But Saturday night is when things get bitter, with the spokesperson adding that "drizzle may affect western coastal fringes where it will be breezy. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees in the west but a little colder in the east dipping down to between -1 and 3 degrees with a touch of frost possible there, in light to moderate southerly breezes. A few mist or fog patches also."

And to top it all off, a nice dry start to Sunday will be ruined.

The spokesperson explains: "Sunday will be another dry and cloudy day for most with just occasional bright spells developing. However, there'll be some patchy drizzle or light rain occurring in southwestern and western coastal areas, becoming persistent at times later in the day and overnight. Highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees"
