Met Eireann’s latest forecast shows an unusual swing in the weather which will see one day of pure sunshine followed by a battering of rain as weather warnings are issued in advance.
According to the latest alert, Sunday will mark the arrival of high levels of rainfall which “may cause some disruption and spot flooding, with highest amounts in mountainous areas,” according to the Irish forecaster.
It is in place from 2am on Sunday until midnight on Monday, however, before this some counties are in for a short-lived glimpse of the sunshine on Saturday.

According to meteorologists, Saturday looks set to be a mostly dry day with a mix of cloud and sunshine - the best of which is expected across the north and east of the country.
There'll just be a few well-scattered showers, mainly confined to the southwest but it will be another warm day with the highest temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees expected in light to moderate southeast winds.
As the grim weather makes its arrival that night, clouds will thicken from the south, and outbreaks of rain will spread across Munster and Connacht before dawn with temperatures dropping to between 11 and 14 degrees in a moderate southeast breeze.
Then on Sunday, the rain will extend nationwide, turning heavy and persistent with the possibility of localised flooding while temperatures remain around 17 to 20 degrees in fresh south or southeast winds.
There will be further outbreaks of rain overnight, again with the continued potential for spot flooding, but it will still be mild and humid with lowest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees.
Heading into next week, outbreaks of rain will gradually ease and clear on Monday with dry and bright periods developing alongside temperatures of around 17 to 22 degrees - warmest in the south.
It’ll be mostly dry on Monday night with clear spells along with just the odd shower and the lowest temperatures will hit around 8 degrees with a moderate northeast breeze developing.
On Tuesday, it is expected to be mostly dry with sunny spells once again, however, a few showers are possible in the east and south.
As for Wednesday, the forecasters say “early indications suggest it will be rather breezy on Wednesday with outbreaks of rain in parts of the south.
“Elsewhere, it will be mostly dry with sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees in a fresh and gusty east to the northeast breeze.”
