Ireland weather: Met Eireann pinpoints areas to be hit by rain as most enjoy dry and calm week

Met Eireann has pinpointed several regions across Ireland that are due to be hit with rain for the remainder of this week, as most other areas enjoy milder conditions with sunshine and clouds.

It’s going to be a dry day today with good spells of winter sunshine and the highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees in light north to northwest breezes.

Things will remain dry but will turn cold tonight with a widespread frost developing and some patches of mist or fog are also expected in near-calm conditions. The lowest temperatures will drop to between -3 to +2 degrees and will be the coldest inland.

Friday will see frost and fog gradually clearing in the morning as some bright spells developing. It will remain dry through most of the day, although clouds will slowly build from the northwest bringing with them some outbreaks of rain.

These showers will push into Connacht and Ulster later in the evening and the highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees are expected in very light southwesterly or variable breezes.

Friday night will feature scattered outbreaks of rain that will continue tracking southeastwards across the country, becoming confined mainly to Leinster and Munster by morning.

It will be another chilly night with lows of 1 to 5 degrees in light southwesterly breezes, veering northerly.

On Saturday, it will be mostly cloudy with isolated outbreaks of rain lingering in Leinster and Munster early on, otherwise dry. The highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees will be felt in very light northwesterly breezes, backing westerly by evening.

Saturday night will be cold and generally dry with light southwesterly breezes and minimum temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees, which will be lowest towards the southeast.

Sunday will once again see cloudy conditions with outbreaks of rain, mainly affecting Connacht and Ulster. The best of the dry spells will be in Leinster. The highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees are expected in mainly light to moderate westerly winds and will be fresher along northwestern coasts.

Kicking off next week, current predictions suggest that Monday will be dry and partly cloudy with the highest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees in light westerly winds.

Beyond this point, the forecasters simply suggest: “Considerable uncertainty remains for the further outlook, although conditions may turn a bit more unsettled for the middle of next week”.
