Ireland weather: Met Eireann pinpoints glimpse of summer sun before another big change this weekend

Ireland is in for an unsettled few days ahead before a glimpse of summer sun arrives on Friday - bringing temperatures of up to 18C for some.

The stunning conditions aren't likely to stick around for most over the Easter weekend according to updated forecasts, with "rain will never be too far off the coasts."

Despite the expected showers today in the north, west, and southwest today, “mist, fog, and low cloud will slowly clear this morning to give some sunny spells but will linger near some coasts”.

“Whilst many areas will stay dry, there will be a few showers scattered about, becoming isolated later in the day," the national forecaster said.

It will be a mild day with highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees in a light south-westerly breeze.

Thursday will be mainly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, persistent in the west, southwest and northwest but light and patchy elsewhere in the east and south with many eastern parts staying dry.

Highest temperatures will range from 11 to 15 degrees with moderate south to southeasterly breezes.

Good Friday will bring a good deal of cloud with some scattered outbreaks of mostly light rain - particularly in the south, southwest, and west of the country - but there will be a lot of dry weather overall.

The best of the bright or sunny intervals will develop in the southernmost parts of the country and temperatures will range from 13 to 17 degrees.

It’ll be coolest on exposed coasts, with light or moderate south to southeasterly breezes.

Much to the disappointment of those with Easter plans this weekend, they may be hampered by a return to wet and dull conditions.

Saturday will bring a lot of cloud with some outbreaks of rain which could be heaviest near the west coast.

Some parts of the east and southeast may stay drier, with some outbreaks of rain expected.

Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees are due with moderate or fresh southerly breezes, easing later.

The Irish forecaster then warned that “Easter Sunday will bring some dry periods initially but rain will never be too far off the west coast and is likely to spread eastwards across the country later.

“Becoming breezy too. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees with moderate south to southeasterly breezes, increasing fresh and blustery near coasts.”
