Met Eireann has issued a status yellow wind warning for Donegal, Mayo, and Galway as damaging winds arrive on Friday to kick off a grim weekend.
The alert is in place until 10:00 am this morning as the Irish forecaster warns of “Strong to gale force south to southwest winds into the morning (Friday), with gusts of 90 to 110km/h expected.”
It’ll be generally cloudy today with scattered outbreaks of rain overnight - most frequent in the western half of the country.

Friday will start off very blustery with strong and gusty southerly winds. These winds will ease through the afternoon, however, the afternoon will also see occasional sunny spells in Connacht and Ulster.
On Friday night, outbreaks of rain will spread northwards across the country, with heavy falls possible in parts of the south or west.
There will be some dry periods too as it’s expected to be another mild night with lowest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees.
Then, on Saturday there will be plenty of clouds about in the morning with outbreaks of rain to start, mainly over the western half of the country.
Rain will largely clear to dry weather for the afternoon and evening with hazy sunny spells developing.
It will stay mild with highs of 13 to 16 degrees in moderate south or southeast breezes.
It will be generally dry overnight apart from a few patches of light rain or drizzle and lowest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees are expected.
It looks set to be a breezy start on Sunday but largely dry to start with a mix of clouds and some hazy sunny spells.
There will likely be rain however in western and southwestern coastal areas, spreading elsewhere especially later in the day.
Rain is expected to become widespread on Sunday night. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in moderate southeast breezes.
