Ireland weather: Met Eireann issue ‘hazardous’ Bank Holiday Monday warning but it's not all bad news

It will be a wet Bank Holiday Monday for most of Ireland today as rain is forecast to spread from west to east.

Met Eireann says it will be heavy at times and may lead to spot flooding in places.

A forecaster warned: “There'll be poor visibility at times leading to hazardous driving conditions.”

Its overall forecast for today reads: “Apart from a few showers in the south, much of the country will start dry today. Rain will develop in the west and spread east during this morning, reaching the east coast later in the afternoon. The rain will turn heavy and may lead to spot flooding in places. There'll be poor visibility at times leading to hazardous driving conditions.

“Light southerly winds will freshen from the southwest. Highest temperatures 17C to 21C

“The rain will break up into showers through the night. Lowest temperatures 14C to 17C in fresh southwest winds.”

A Status Yellow weather warning has been issued for three counties - Clare, Kerry and Galway - from noon Monday until noon Tuesday.

It says: "Heavy rain may lead to localised flooding."

It’s not all bad news, as the national forecaster has pinpointed this weekend as the date high pressure will return to the country, bringing dry and warm conditions.

Looking ahead to the weekend, it said: “Current indications suggest that high pressure will continue to slowly build into the weekend leading to mostly dry and settled conditions.”

In the meantime, Ireland can expect a mix of sunshine and showers.

Its forecast for the rest of the week reads: “Showers early on Tuesday will clear and there'll be sunny spells in the afternoon. Highest temperatures 18C in the west to 23C in the east with fresh southwest winds.

“A mix of sunny spells and light scattered showers for Wednesday, the showers mainly in the afternoon.

“Thursday will be dry for most of the day with just isolated showers in the west and northwest. There'll be some sunshine in the afternoon. Fresher than of late with highest temperatures of 16C to 18C in light to moderate northwesterly winds. Temperatures overnight down to 8C or 9C.

“Friday will be a similar day, mainly dry with some sunshine in the morning and a few showers in the afternoon, mainly in the west and northwest. Temperatures of 16C to 18C degrees with light to moderate west to northwest winds.”
