Ireland weather: Met Eireann give 'unusual' forecast as one half of country battered by torrential rain while other basks in sunshine

Ireland is set to be battered with horrendous conditions today as a band of heavy rains moves in from the west before spreading across the country.

Met Eireann has given an unusual forecast as 'unseasonable' weather puts a dampener on any outdoor plans on this summer's day.

However, not everywhere will see the washout continue.

A forecaster said on Saturday night: "Showers pushing across the country and heavy band of rain has arrived in West now and will move across country through tonight. Very breezy again tomorrow with scattered showers and sunny spells, best of sunny spells in East and Southeast again."

Here is a more detailed look at Met Eireann's forecast.

Today, June 26

Rain will clear eastwards this morning, followed from the west by frequent showers and sunny spells. Some of the showers will be heavy.

Another breezy day in moderate to fresh and gusty southerly winds becoming westerly later. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees.

A mix of clear spells and scattered showers tonight, heaviest and most frequent in the west and northwest, merging to longer spells of rain in Ulster.

Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees with moderate westerly breezes.

Monday, June 27

Isolated showers tomorrow, Monday, morning will become frequent in the afternoon, with a spell of persistent rain in the western half of the country later in the day.

Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees with moderate westerly winds freshening and becoming southerly.

Rain will spread across the country Monday night, clearing to showers by morning.

Lowest temperatures 10 to 12 degrees as strong southerly winds moderate.

Tuesday, June 28

Persistent rain will clear away to the east on Tuesday morning, leaving a mixed day for all areas with sunny spells and scattered showers.

Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees. Winds mainly moderate southerly, fresh along coasts.

Showers will continue Tuesday night, with some clear spells. Temperatures generally not falling below 8 to 10 degrees, as winds fall light to moderate and variable.

Wednesday, June 29

Another showery day is in store for Wednesday, with more persistent rain moving into the country's south and extending northwards through the day, clearing to showers by nightfall.

Highest temperatures of 15 to 17 degrees, with light northerly or variable winds.

Thursday, June 30

Little change on Thursday with light to moderate westerly winds and showers in the afternoon.

Current indications suggest that conditions will remain unsettled through the weekend as low pressure continues to dominate.
