Ireland weather: Met Eireann give unusual forecast as glorious bank holiday sunshine to blast the country

Ireland is set to be blasted with sunshine for the remainder of the bank holiday weekend as a high-pressure system moves across the country.

Met Eireann has predicted a dry and relatively warm week as a mini-heatwave arrives with little to no rain in most parts.

The west will see the highest temperatures this weekend as people take to the coast for the first beach days of the year.

A forecaster said: “Mainly dry with good sunny spells for Friday, but a cloudier day for southern areas. Cloud may also move onto some eastern & western coasts in the afternoon. Northern parts will be noticeably milder than today, in highs of 10 to 15 degrees, coolest near eastern & southern coasts.”

Here is a more detailed look at what to expect over the weekend.

Friday, March 18

Early morning mist and frost will clear, with a sunny day on the cards for most areas.

It will become duller across southern and eastern fringes, with maximum temperatures of 10 to 16 degrees, best values across central and western areas.

Southeast winds will be mainly moderate in strength, a little fresher though near coasts.

Continuing dry tonight with long clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 6 degrees, with some frost, mainly for sheltered areas. Some mist or fog possible also, in mostly moderate southeast breezes.

Saturday, March 19

Dry and sunny across most areas on Saturday, but breezy too, in moderate to fresh southeast winds.

Top temperature will range 11 to 16 degrees, best values once again across central and western areas.

Dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells on Saturday night with moderate southeast breezes.

Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees, coolest and clearest in the north and east with some possible frost here.

Sunday, March 20

Most areas will be cloudy with the best of any sunny spells in the northeast and east—overall dry, outside of isolated showers.

Highest temperatures of 9 to 14 degrees, coolest across the eastern half of the country, in moderate southeast breezes.

Dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells in moderate southeast breezes on Sunday night.

Lowest temperatures of 2 to 7 degrees, coolest and clearest in the northeast with some possible frost here.

Monday, March 21

Dry with long spells of spring sunshine across most areas and some scattered showers.

Top temperatures of 10 to 17 degrees, warmest across the west, in moderate southeast breezes.
