Ireland weather: Met Eireann give unusual forecast as blast of summer weather to arrive before major change this weekend

Ireland is set to bask in the summer sunshine this week as temperatures remain high with just some isolated showers.

Met Eireann has predicted a largely dry and sunny week. However, temperatures will nose dive during the nights leading to some mist and fog.

The west will see the worst of the conditions as more overcast weather arrives ahead of the bank holiday weekend.

A forecaster said: "The fine settled weather will continue for the coming week with lots of sunny spells and only the odd shower. Easterly winds persisting but easing a little for the next few days. Some cool nights with a risk of fog and light frost."

Here is a more detailed look at this week's forecast.

Today will be largely dry with sunny spells, though a few light showers will develop through the day.

Highest temperatures of 11 to 16 degrees, mildest in the west and coolest in the east, in light to moderate easterly winds.

Tonight will be another mainly dry and clear night apart from isolated showers.

Mist and fog will develop in places in a light, easterly or variable breeze. Quite cold with lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees generally, though a little colder locally in the midlands with a touch of grass frost possible.

Tuesday, April 26

Tomorrow will be mainly dry and bright with long sunny spells.

However, scattered showers will develop through the day. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in a light to moderate easterly breeze.

Another mainly dry night with clear spells and just one or two lingering showers. Quite cool with lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees in a light easterly breeze.

A few patches of mist and fog will develop overnight.

Wednesday, April 27

Wednesday morning will be largely dry and bright with sunny spells.

It will turn cloudier as the day goes on with well scattered showers developing.

Highest temperatures range from 10 degrees in the east to 15 degrees in the west in light to moderate easterly winds.

Dry overnight with clear spells and occasional mist and fog patches developing. A cold night with lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees in a light breeze.

Thursday, April 28

Slightly cloudier on Thursday, though remaining primarily dry with just isolated light showers.

Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees in light winds.

Thursday night will be dry with clear spells and light winds. Another cool night with lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees.

Friday, April 29

Dry with sunny spells for most of the day, though cloud will build from the west later on.

Highest temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees in a light variable breeze.

Current indications suggest that the weekend will be cloudier with the chance of patchy rain and drizzle.
